Christ Church Kids

At Christ Church Knoxville we love families! We are so thankful for the people, young and old, that God has brought in to be a part of our church family. As you visit Christ Church we want you to know that we love and cherish your little ones and want the best time for them on Sunday mornings. If you have any questions about our procedures, please contact us or find our Kids Church check-in table on Sunday mornings.

Our teachers lead the kids through Gospel-centered, Bible-based teaching each Sunday with stories and activities that teach them about God. Our goal is that while the classrooms are fun and exciting on Sundays, they are also leading these little ones to know more about Christ. Each class has age-specific material with accompanying stories and activities. The teachers also place an emphasis on class participation, as much as the children feel comfortable doing, with questions and discussions. We believe that even at a young age we can all engage with the story of the Gospel and learn something new about God every day.

Classes are split into several age groups:

  • 0 to 1 - Babies have a safe space to crawl and play on Sunday mornings for the entirety of the service. If any little ones are nursing, we do have a nursing mothers room where the mom can still listen to the worship and sermon from the main service.

  • 2 to 3 - Two and three year old children have plenty of activities and toys in their classes along with coloring activities and stories for their curriculum. They take a snack time during the class as well.

  • 4 to 5 - The four and five year old class has more time of questions and conversations to go along with their curriculum as well as verse memorization and art activities.

  • 6 and older - Any older children have their own class time during the adult Sunday School courses but then join us in the main sanctuary for worship and the sermon. Since the older class joins us in the main service, there is not a check-in process for them.

We believe that as a church we are called to be a community that grows together unto knowing Christ in deeper ways. While we have separate classes for kids on Sunday mornings, we never want to communicate that children are a separate community from the rest of the church. We are always looking to provide families with programs and events outside our normal Sunday services to encourage this kind of fellowship among the generations. We always encourage families to participate with our church week to week and really be a part of this church family. One of the best ways this can happen in on Wednesday nights with our Small Groups around the city. Your children will have another safe space to get to know the kids in your area as they play together on Wednesday evenings, so we highly encourage you to join a group. In all that we do, on Sundays and throughout the week, we want your children to make new friends and feel free to have fun with their new friends. We believe that God has called children and and adults to learn, worship and grow, not isolated, but in community.

We want parents to know that their children are safe during the service when in our care. You will notice a few things about our children’s ministry on Sunday mornings:

  1. Check-In - Every family will check-in their children at the table at the front of the kids wing on Sunday mornings. Each parent will have a profile where they can note allergies, special instructions and approved guardians for pickup. Once a child is checked-in, they will not be released from their class until an approved guardian picks them up. New parents can quickly and easily set up a new profile at the check-in kiosk at the front of the kids wing. A volunteer will always be on hand to help you with the process.

  2. Communication - If ever a teacher needs assistance from a parent, our staff will send a text message to the parents while they are in the service. We always want their to be open and safe communication for the parents and the kids alike. Each classroom will have two adult teachers at any given time as well for increased visibility. If ever a parent needs to release their child early or speak with a helper, there will be an available volunteer at the check-in table.

  3. Volunteers - Any volunteers in our children’s ministry are confirmed members of Christ Church Knoxville and have gone through our training and safety protocols. From curriculum to behavior to emergency situations, our team is prepared from the top down for the wellbeing of the children.

  4. Security - The children’s wing for Christ Church has one main entrance in and out. Any other outside doors are locked during normal hours of service on Sundays. This helps to make sure that children and parents only have one access point to the kids wing. We also have a security team in place to oversee safety in the kids wing and main lobby of the building.
